MINUTES OF THE Feb 7, 2023 Meeting

Call to Order at  7:00PM BY President Jeff Streit

MEMBERS PRESENT:  16         GUESTS PRESENT: NONE

Review of the minutes of the January 3, 2023 meeting garnered no discussion of request for changes.

OLD BUSINESS:

Jim Grant – PokerFun fly same as last month.. no changes

MIKE MURPHY – Safety Director Report

  • Mike talked about control surface hinges.. shared a story of how at an event he witnessed an elevator pulled because he had misapplied CA hinges.  Discussed the proper way to install CA, always with a brand new fresh bottle of thin CA and other specifics of the techniques which yield a safe and reliable connection.

Gary Stephens  V.P.  Report

  •  Swap update discussion with a decision that the 1.2M Corsair will be the 2023 Raffle Plane.  Drawing date – at the Swap on October 22, 2023 timeframe around 11:30-12.
  • Gary also announced the safety netting for the pavilion is being ordered next month and will be up before the Memorial Fly.

Dave Hills Maintenance Director Report- 

  • A list has been created of typical seasonal items, like mowers  and generator oil change.  This maintenance sheet has been created so we can keep a log. 
    • Upcoming spring tasks pending,  safety netting , flag light, windsocks, check flight line fences.  Fix taxiway damage from the mower.
    • A list of Daves  past maintenance activities (besides mowing)
      •  Sept 11 2021 mowers serviced,
      • new runway summer of 2020.
      • New chains on the pavilion lights
      • grass seed applied
      • gravel moved
      • new tire on back side of JD
      • fixed brace on front of JD
      • 2 new tires on the trolly of Snapper Oct 22

Social activity  Director Report

  • This office  is still open we are looking for a new director

Chris Mroch –  WEBSITE STATUS

  • Jeff thanks Chris for an excellent job on the web site. 
    • Chris encourage members to contact him with any “For Sale” items so we can keep the page populated.
    • Helicopters listed on the page discussed last month are in storage, still available so far no takers.
    • Chris requested dates for the 2023 events so he can update the events page
    • Dan moved Gary seconded that  we empower Jeff to contact the Vets Home and set a date for the Vets FlyIn based on the Vets availability.

JEFF STREIT PRESIDENT –

  • We might have a chance to get a used Kawasaki Zero turn mower from Kawasaki.  A significant saving on a ‘company’ machine.  Members discussed the idea and most felt the Snapper is undesirable for many due to it’s operational challenges versus a sit on zero turn. 
    • Chuck is the new facebook administrator, and Jeff wants added to the admins of the FB page.
    • Jeff discussed a club longest day fly-in June 24th. 4pm tilll dark.  Moved Jim G Second Chris M. – approved.

    • Local other club events:   Thunderbird swap meet March 25th,   Previously “MEFF” is now called “MidMichigan Huck Fest”  June 14-18th

  • Danny Osborne – Branns April 15th is the date location is Division.

NEW BUSINESS:

Jeff Streit – By-laws concerns

  1. By-laws state we vote in new members, we don’t formally so he wants to change the by laws.  Discussion – Dan clarified he mentions new members in the Treasurer’s report but we don’t vote unless someone is objected to.
    1. Bylaws dicatate a secretary/treasurer as one person, but Gary thought it was an option not mandatory it’s the same person.

Show & Tell –

Jim Grant showed a freshly crafted replica of his first RC plane, which he originally made in 1953.  He also showed his fine collection of Cox engines from that era.
