Minutes of the January 7, 2020 Meeting
Call to order at 7:00pm by Vice President Jim Grant
There were 15 Members present and no guests present
Review of the Minutes of the December 3, 2019 meeting. No requests for changes.

Old Business
Jim Grant – call for the election of the nominated individuals for club officers:
President: Gary Stephens
Vice President: Jim Grant
2nd Vice President: Jim Herron
Secretary/Treasurer: Dan McLaren (2nd year of 2 year term)
Safety Director: Mike Murphy
Social Director: Steve O’Connor
Maintenance Director: David Hills
Web Master: Mark Terrazzino
(Nominations were closed at the December meeting and since all positions are unopposed, a voice vote will complete the election.)
Lee Frederickson motioned to accept the slate of nominees.
Gary Stephens seconded the motion and the motion carried.
Jim Grant congratulated the new officers and passing of the gavel to Gary Stephens.
Gary Stephens gave a short bio of himself:
- Been in the hobby since 1984
- Has served as a club VP and director of large Ilinois club
- AMA Contest director since the early 1990’s
- Ran the club Pattern Contest in the late 1990’s
- Involved with the club swap meet for 25 years.
- Ran the club’s giant scale fun fly in the 2000’s
- Flies all type of RC aircraft: gas and glow sport models, electric scale and sport, gas giant scale aerobatic, gas giant scale warbirds (WW1 & WW2), and fly indoor in the winter.
- Retired and moved to Michigan in May of 2019
Mike Murphy – Safety Message – proposed a goal for each of us that we end 2020 with the same number of fingers and eyes that we started the year with. In other words, be same! Also, even though a fire extinguisher in the shop may show green, after sitting for an extended period they may clog up. You should tap the dry chemical unit on the floor to be sure it is still loose and functional before using.
Jim Grant – Recommendations for 2020 Swap Shop raffle plane seemed to zero in on the 850mm Pits from Motion RC. Jim will finalize choice and purchase plane. George Orphan agreed to print tickets for the raffle again this year. Lee Frederickson suggested that ticket sales by club members be mandatory and paid as part of annual dues. This idea was forwarded to the By Law review committee for consideration. Likewise, a 50 / 50 drawing will also be considered.
David Hills – Maintenance Comments – everything is buttoned up for the winter.
Jim Herron will still be the “chief mower” in 2020.
Steve O’Connor – will be ready for spring events.
George Orphan – promotional video follow up – son John was home for Christmas and got some winter footage on New Year’s Day! Editing of the film may well be done in Hollywood…

Gary Stephens reminded everyone that AMA has requested everyone to comment on the proposed FAA rules concerning air space use. If you did not get an email from AMA, go to the AMA web site to pick up the proposed letter to submit to the FAA.
