Old Business
Mike Murphy – Conducted the Annual AMA and Club Safety review. It was noted that AMA has reduced the safety poster to cover the broader, high level safety issues while referring to the new 30 page safety manual that goes into farther detail by section. There have not been any significant changes in the AMA safety code or the KRAM field rules since 2014 so keep being safe.
Next month Mike is going to focus on common sense and safety…
Jim Grant – informed us that the Swap Shop raffle plane will be a FMS 70MM Avanti (Rx ready. Batteries not included.) Jet has a 35.4 inch wingspan with retracts and runs on a 6S battery. George Orphan, Brian Thomas, and Jim are finalizing the poster and will have tickets available shortly. The plane was displayed and discussed during the show and tell portion of the meeting.
Dave Kingma – fruit basket delivery comments – Dave was absent but previously told me that all went well and all appreciated the baskets.
Lee Frederickson – Combat update
New Business
Dan McLaren Noted AMA and KRAM renewals are due now. $75 with renewal form mailed to me. AMA renewal done easily by computer.
Lee Frederickson noted that there are now four members who have built combat planes for this summer. He is putting together a list of guys that want one and is going to make a bulk buy to save a few bucks. Give him a call if you want to be part of the group bulk buy.
Mark Schmaltz had a donation story – a few years ago he put a package together for a family – an LT 40 and field box and a Hobby Star with a 75 on it. They called recently and offered to donate them back to the club. Mark jumped at the offer since they had never paid for them!!!
Mark made a motion to put lights in the pavilion and shed for a total cost of $75. Lee Frederickson seconded the motion. After much discussion about the need for lights, the stated field rules of field operation (no flying after 9:00 pm), night flying by some, etc. the motion passed 9 in favor with 5 apposed.
Danny Osborn – New Year’s Day fly in did not happen due to weather.
Danny Osborn made a motion to have a spring banquet 21st of April. All agreed and Roz will schedule whichever date is available at Brann’s on Division. (Reserved for the 21st)
As of a discussion with Jeff at Hobby World on February 7, the building owners are not giving him a new lease and he expected to be out of business on February 28, 2018…
Lee Frederickson pointed out a good article about Clubs and their life cycle on page 36 of the latest AMA magazine. Suggested reading for all.
Dave Pierce asked everyone to think about having a scale contest with the idea of better scale building and flying. More to follow at the March meeting.
Phil Shea – coming events
Club Banquet at Brann’s – April 21 (Reserved for 6:30 social time 7:00 dinner)
Memorial Day fly in – June 16
IMAC – July 13, 14, 15
Club Picnic – August 11
Vets Fly In – September 15
Swap Meet – October 28
Show and Tell – Dave Pierce had a Goldberg Tiger with a 60 inch wing and an OS 55 engine. Dave did a nice build on this bird that was kitted in the 1980’s. I hope it will fly as good as it looked!
Next meeting: March 6, 2018 at 7:00pm AT WEST MICHIGAN AVIATION ACADAMY
Meeting adjourned at 8:18
Motion by: Mark Schmaltz
Seconded by: Lee Frederickson
Respectfully submitted,
Dan McLaren
