Old Business
Mike Murphy’s Safety review this month centered on LiPo batteries not being left for storage at full charge. Recommended rate is about 33%. He showed a unit that you can build at home for under $35 that will discharge and balance your batteries in about 30 minutes. Check “My RC Mart.com” and look for the RCX 3 in one Battery Balancer. It is simple to construct, easy to find the parts, and does the job!
Jim Herron – possible club field trip (Air Force Museum / Toledo) – Jim was on vacation but emailed Mark an update that tells us that all the vans in the city are spoken for since the date we had targeted is the Spring Break week for the schools. Private transport is still an option and will be discussed at the March meeting.
Mark Schmaltz reported that BEN’S AVIATION at the Ionia airport has two gliders and offers rides that range in cost from $75 to $300. Some discussion about giving a ride away as a raffle prize at the Swap Shop. More discussion to follow.
Jim Grant reminded all that a guided tour of the WMAA by George Pavey would take place after our meeting. (The tour was very insightful as George led us around the building and told us the interesting things about the school which now has over 600 students. Thanks George for staying late! Where was this kind of school when we were kids???)
Mark Schmaltz handed out sales brochures for zero point turn rider lawnmowers for all to look at and rate as to possible machine for field maintenance. During this discussion Lee Frederickson informed us that he is probably moving into a condo and thus his riding mower might be available to buy. He has used that mower for the last two years for mowing the “infield” while we continued to use the big mower for the “outfield”. More to come at the March meeting…
