Old Business
Mike Murphy – Safety review focused on what to do in case of emergency. A 911 call takes about 10 minutes to have an ambulance on site. It takes about twenty minutes to get to Blodgett Hospital, which is the nearest 24 / 7 emergency room.
It was also noted that we had a very serious accident where a prop struck the leg of a member in the pits. A quick trip to Blodgett resulted in 27 staples to close the wound. Rumor has it that we have not seen him at the field because his wife grounded him!
Lee – a work day is scheduled for MAY 21 AT 8:00AM. Bring a shovel and / or rake, and pliers or channel locks because we will be lifting the southern two runway mats to fill in the ruts and holes that have developed under the mat. Lee is hoping to borrow the little front loader from the farm to bring dirt from over by the pond to fill in the ruts. With many hands, we should be flying by early afternoon.
Flag pole replacement to be handled by Tim Powers and flag replacement to be covered by Dave Kingma. (The flag pole has been replaced thanks to Tim Power and Brian Thomas. Looks great Tim!)
George / Dan – will work with Nik to generate revised “take this home” stickers for magazines to be left in Doctor and Dental offices.
Dan – still trying to make contact with the Vet’s Home for a September outing. (Note – Contact was made at 6:30 pm on 5/17/16. We are on the schedule!)
New Business
Lee presented an article from the current AMA magazine on membership retention and growth. An excellent article worth the time to read!
Lee introduced club member Jon Luurtsema as our guest speaker. Jon has been flying for the past 18 years with United and flown the big planes – DC 10, Air Bus, 737, and for the last 5 months the 777. Some interesting nick names for the planes: 777 is called Big Foot because it has three axles on the main landing gear: 747 is called the whale while the 737 is called the guppy. Jon is flying the “long haul” schedule which includes the Chicago to Hong Kong trip which is a 6 day trip with 14.5 hours of flight time each direction. The 777 is powered by Pratt and Whitney or GE engines which generate 94,000 pound of thrust. Fuel load is 256,000 pounds or about 38,000 gallons with consumption of about 15,000 pounds per hour. The plane can fly for three to three and a half hours on one engine! Computer simulation is a big part of the pilot training today! Jon’s presentation was very informative – thank you!!!
Lee – coming events
KRAM field clean up and repair day – May 21, 8:00am
Show and Tell
Phil Shea displayed an Ultimate Bipe that he covered in Monokote. Lots of hand cut stars made the plane look very fancy! Nice job Phil.
George Orphan displayed a Space Walker he acquired from Phil Shea that needed a little TLC and new covering. Again, George covered with MonoKote. Another nice job – and who said you cannot cover with MonoKote?
Danny Osborn displayed the Raffle Plane which is a Hanger 9 P51

Meeting adjourned at 8:10pm
