Old Business
Nik reported on Vet’s Fly In. 74 people present at lunch and 50 planes on the ground. $152 raffle income, $152.83 food donations, $49 excess food sales, $35 donated to Wounded Warrior (via Skyhawks). Cool but dry so all that attended enjoyed the day.
Nik / Danny Osborn reported the Sept. 20th fun fly was attended by 5 pilots. It was windy and, according to Danny, the donuts won (sorry Jim)! Nik came in first with a three way tie for second. The winners got a roll of monokote and props.
Nik advised the indoor flying schedule has been finalized with the first date being Nov. 1 from 9am to 1pm at WMAA. There are eight dates in total for the winter; 11/1, 12/6, 1/10, 1/31, 2/21, 3/7, 3/21, 4/18. $5 entry fee goes to the school R/C club. Lunch is available…
Dave Pierce called in from Washington, D.C. The planning for the Swap Meet of October 26 is going well – 75 tables sold as of meeting night (UPDATE – 86 tables as of 10/9). (Nik – Hobby World said they will likely be donating a bunch of older non-moving stock to the club. We can sell for anything we can get for it, as all of the proceeds will be donated to the club. Will need a couple guys to man these tables through the day)
Raffle tickets have been mailed to all who did not get them at the field.
Help needed for:
Set up at 8:00 am
Manning the front and rear doors.
Manning the club tables, Dave Drakes estate tables, Hobby World donation tables.
Clean up at the end of the day.
Some tables still available…
Lee Frederickson reported out on shed committee findings. He made a motion to spend ten minutes at the next four meetings to discuss possible improvements to the field. The list of items identified so far, funds permitting, include investigating:
1. Cement floor for the shed.
2. Electric power run from the barn.
3. Pull up the mat and level the surface under it and put the mat back down.
4. Electric generator or solar electric provided for battery recharge.
5. Replace tables and chairs.

Nik – coming club events
October 26 Swap Shop – come at 8am to help set up and stay the day! Indoor flying dates are: 11/1, 12/6, 1/10, 1/31, 2/21, 3/7, 3/21, 4/18
Dan McLaren noted that we were recognized by the AMA for being a leader club for five consecutive years. Nice plaque to hang in the shelter and patched for all members. I will have them with me so just ask for one next time you see me.
Danny Osborn reported that he had sent out a club email with a list of all the R/C stuff that is available for purchase from the estate of Dave Drake. All remaining items will be available at the Swap Meet. Call Dan if you see something on the list you want!
Lee Frederickson mentioned that the AMA is trying to increase the number of “leader members” in the organization. He did some research to see how many there were in his region and was surprised to discover there were only two – both from our club. Check the AMA web site for a description of the roles and responsibilities of a “leader member” and, if interested, pull the application down and fill it out!
Show and Tell
Danny Osborn was shamed into admitting he was the pilot of a trainer that lost radio reception and ended up “in the pond”. Recovered, but not a pretty sight (or smell)!!! (I heard the plane now flies like a pile of…!)
Jim Grant was likewise shamed when he lost radio reception and ended up putting his Tiger 2 through the barn roof. The engine, firewall, tank, and battery pack actually ended up among the cows below!!!
Mike Grady sent in a picture of his all electric, 138 inch B-17G that he had entered in the National Association of Scale Aeromodelers contest at Muncie. The plane received a 99.5 in the static judging and a 95.125 in the flight portion. He also received the Pilots Choice award for the 65 pound model!
Lee Frederickson showed off a DJI 450 drone. Liked building it and reminds him of flying a heli. Build only took two hours and he had help programming it.
Nik showed off his new 56” AJ Laser 230z – a Jesky kit from AJ Aircraft – with a Hacker motor and runs on 4 to 6 cell batteries. Nik states it is a great flying plane!
