Minutes of the September 2, 2014 Meeting

Review of the Minutes of the August 5, 2014 meeting produced one correction. Mark Schmaltz stated he did not volunteer to be on the “shelter improvement” committee.

The Financial Report presented by Dan McLaren. There were no questions, comments, or concerns. Membership remains at 60 regular members, 4 lifetime, 2 associate, and 10 junior for a total of 76 members.

Old Business:
Mark Schmaltz reported on the IMAC event of August 22, 23, and 24. Fifteen pilots participated, including five first timers. All reportedly loved the event, venue, and fellow flyers. There were 10 Basic and 5 Sportsman class flyers with Pres Nik Zinsli placing second in the sportsman class. Pulled pork went over great for lunch. New plaques which are produced locally were well received and quickly produced at acceptable pricing. Nik reported the event made about $275! A heartfelt “Thank You” was expressed to all who volunteered to help produce a successful event.
New Business:
Nik thanked Tim Power for rethreading the flag pole pipe and re-erecting it before the meeting.
Nik reminded everyone that next month nominations are opened for next year’s club officers. Please consider running for office!
Starting next month we will be meeting at West Michigan Aviation Academy. We will meet in room 211 (new room – second floor) and there will be no indoor flying before the meeting due to high school sports programs. After meeting flying will take place.
Saturday indoor flying dates have been submitted to the school for review and approval. More to follow…
Mark Schmaltz reminded everyone that the Regional IMAC finals are being held at the Saranac club on September 27 and 28. Stop on out and see the best of the best!
Dave Pierce reported that 31 tables are already reserved for the Swap Shop. Raffle Tickets are available from Dave until after the Vet’s Fly In, then he will mail them to you – pick them up if you can and save the club the stamp! Dave reported the flyers are out, the ad is in the AMA magazine, and we will put ads on Craig’s List next month. Dave will need help at 8:00 to set up the tables on Oct. 26.
Lee Frederickson questioned when he would report out on the shed committee findings. He was informed that the minutes stated he would report out at a “winter meeting”. Some discussion followed about when that might be and Nik said once we go back indoors. (editor’s note: we should probably not vote on capital spending items until we see how much we make at the swap shop and how many members we sign up for next year. I do not want to spend money we do not have.)
