Old Business:
Dan – Dues are overdue! Bilaws call for a $25 late fee. Dave Pierce made a motion to eliminate late fee. The motion was seconded and approved by vote. The Bilaws will be modified and voted on at the next meeting. Lee Lubbers wanted to make sure the Bilaws would still make sure flying club members are still required to be AMA members. This was affirmed by noting section II A which states “A club member must be a current member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
Nik noted nominations for mock elections ended March 1. Did not get many nominations. Awards will be presented at the banquet.
Nik – winter banquet scheduled for March 15 at Brann’s on Division. Happy hour starts at 6pm with dinner at 7pm. Date on the invitations is incorrect – 15th is correct date, 22nd is incorrect. RSVP ASAP
New Business:
Nik noted that the last indoor fly in at the WMAA gym is March 15 and Greg of West Michigan Park Flyers will by having his second annual customer appreciation fly-in with prizes and fun.
Nik announced that a customer of Rider’s brought in a load of stuff as a donation. Bill turned around and donated it to KRAM. Included was a trainer, powered glider, transmitters and flight box stuff. We will use the trainer for training, sell the glider, and put the little stuff in the prize box… Thanks again to Rider’s!
Nik commented on Hobby World and Butch’s illness. Butch has a tumor outside the lung and will be hearing more on treatment in the near future. The store will continue to operate. If you have some free time and want a part time job helping out during this period, stop in at the store and discuss. In the meantime, thoughts, prayers, cards, and visits welcome!
Dan noted that we only have 44 regular members paid up at this point. We have 30 members from last year that are now delinquent.
Dan – Bylaws changes proposed:
Section III B – no longer relevant
Section III E – remove the late payment fee.
Section X D 5 – remove “and AMA” – no longer relevant
Dan – AMA charter documents and fees submitted to AMA in February
– Included updating the insurance certificate to reflect the legal entity we rent from and is covered by the AMA policy.
– As part of this process, I requested Matt to try to plant soy beans between the barn and the field. He said he would discuss this with the group when it came time to decide what got planted where – but no promises.
Dan – Leader Club documents submitted and received by AMA and acknowledged as a continuing Leader Club. I ordered 20 new pins for newcomers.
Allen Simpson asked if anyone had seen an email from Lyle Williams, president of the Port City RC’ers. I responded we had and read the negative email with allegations concerning the Wounded Warrior Project and the reply I got from Tim Jesky (AMA District VII VP) debunking the allegations. This charity is in line with Disabled Americans and USO with the cost and use of funds.
Show and Tell – Dave Pierce displayed an LT40 that he finished and hopes to fly often this summer since he does not expect to be traveling for work as much as last year!
The 50/50 for March was won by Mark Schmaltz who kindly donated his winnings of $15 back to the club.
The March attendance winner was Steve Gurd who selected a prop wrench from the goodie box.
