OLD BUSINESS:
Dan – Dues are Due! Fill out the “club member renewal form” from the web and send with $75 to address shown on form. Email reminders will be sent to all delinquent members this month.
Nik reported on the New Year’s Day fly in – 12 people attended. It was cold with a steady breeze and snow showers which prevented most gas engines from starting, but fun was still had by all attending. Thanks to Roz Osborn for the sloppy joes & chili dogs!
Nik reported the 2014 raffle plane will be Hanger 9 60 size Spitfire which has been donated by Hobby World. Riders is also donating some money for an OS65. Jim Grant has volunteered to put it together.
NEW BUSINESS:
Dan McLaren reported on a number of issues:
AMA has a new “history” program which has a mission “to compile and record the biographies of aeromodeling enthusiasts, as well as the histories of clubs and modeling companies”. Dan offered to work with any “old timers” if they wanted to record the history of the club. If you were with the club in its’ infancy, please get ahold of Dan.
The AMA Charter Club documents have been received and will be completed and returned to AMA this month.
The AMA has designated August 16, 2014 as NATIONAL MODEL AVIATION DAY. More to follow…
MDOT announced it is going to replace the overpass at I-96 and Alden Nash this summer. Although they say full closure is to be kept to a minimum, construction may cause congestion and / or detours to get to the field if you use Alden Nash.
Nik announced there is a survey on the web site to nominate people for the mock elections. The trophies will be handed out at the winter banquet. If you did not get the password, check your email…or contact Nikolei for it.
Speaking of the winter banquet, Nik announced we will have one on late February or March. UPDATE: Roz has reserved March 15th at Brann’s. Happy hour from 6-7, dinner at 7. Choice of steak, tilapia, chicken or ribs for $13.53 including tax & tip. RSVPs will be sent out soon.
Thunderbirds R/C Swap Meet – Saturday Jan. 18 9:30 to 2:30 at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center, 2900 Lake Street, Kalamazoo.
Chesaning Swap Meet is February 9 (Sunday) from 9am to 2pm.
Skymasters swap meet is February 15 (Saturday) 9am to 2pm.
Mark Schmaltz requested that we ask the landlord to plant soy beans around the field if possible. His concern was the big IMAC birds struggled with the short approach over the corn.
Mark also requested to “Sanction” our Memorial Fly In, Big Bird Salute, and Veterans Fly In. Sanctioned events get advertised in the AMA magazine and may add visitors / pilots to the events. Cost is $20 per event. Nik approved.
Brian Thomas announced the KRAM 2014 event dates are set and will be posted on the web site. (Note: Indoor flying on 2/8, 2/22, and 3/15)
