OLD BUSINESS:
Nik – Riders Hobby Shop presentation – hopefully will be at the June meeting
Mark Schmaltz – commented on winter build nights – those involved have come a long way and are now very confident and competent in building and covering a balsa model. Build night is on Wednesdays until the plane is done (Tuesday is Training night at the field).
Dave Pierce – commented on the KRAM banquet of April 20. A total of 24 people were present – 14 members and 10 spouses. A good time was had by all who attended. Nik asked if there was any specific reason people did not attend – answers were vacation, prior plans, etc. – nothing we could change to drive attendance.
Nik announced we had received the AMA Flying Site Grant. Dan McLaren noted we had asked for $2,900. (After the meeting we discovered the grant was only 10% of the total value of the project – thus we received $690. This leaves us about $2000 short vs. our contractor estimate. Dan is meeting with the contractor on 5/22 to see if we can work something out that has him do the heavy work while the club supplies labor for some of the easier stuff. More to follow.)
Nik reminded all that if you want to know more about the IMAC event, see his email on the subject. He also explained that there are 5 different classes with plaques going to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Total plaques needed is 17 with a cost of $15 to $20 each. Nik asked for a motion to spend club funds to buy these plaques with the club to be repaid out of event registration fees. Mike Murphy made the motion and Jim Korringa seconded. Motion carried.
Nik reported he printed 300 “steal me” stickers. They can be picked up after the meeting.
Danny Osborn reported out on TAG Day – a good day!!! We had 35 intro flights for the day and had 68 people ate lunch. Danny also reported that Wood TV did a nice TV promo of the event. As in the past, the simulators were a hit with the younger kids.
NEW BUSINESS:
Mark Shaughnessy discussed planning for the Memorial Fly-In on May 18.
Flyers are out in the hobby shops and sent to our club contact list. Set up at the field will be at 8:15 with the event running from 9:00AM until 3:00pm.
Dan McLaren reported the field had been rolled, stakes and tape had been placed to protect our runway extension to the east from being planted, and broad leaf weed killer would be applied within the next few days.
Dan McLaren requested that the Club Resources currently stored at WMAA be indexed so club members know where to find them. Nik nodded his concurrence.
Dan McLaren conducted our annual Review of AMA and Club field safety rules. Anyone not present should be sure to review both AMA and Club rules, which are posted in the shelter.
SHOW AND TELL:
Mark Shaughnessy showed his T-REX 550E flybarless heli. For those who were at the TAG Day, you saw it fly!
50/50 for May won by: Mark Schmaltz who donated his half back to the club. Thus, $24 went in the bank. Thanks Mark.
May attendance winner was guest Roger Heileman.
Next meeting: June 4, 2013 at 7:00pm at the field
Meeting adjourned at 8:03pm
Motion by: Mark Schmaltz
Seconded by: everyone else
Respectfully submitted,
Dan McLaren
