OLD BUSINESS:
Danny Osborn reported on May 21 TAG event. A total of 12 people signed in for flights and 15 had photo releases signed. Dan thought all went well and flowed smoothly with the number of people we had. He thanked all that helped with the day – from the cooks to the set up help to the trainers – all was appreciated!
It was suggested that a follow up note be sent to any of those that we could identify that really seemed interested inviting them out to a Tuesday evening training night. All seemed to think this would be a very good idea and a personal touch.
Dave Pierce was absent due to illness in the family but Mark mentioned that planning for Ryder’s display for 28th Street Cruse is very low key. More to follow next month.
Dave / Mark / Dan – a sign up sheet was passed around for June 11 Memorial Fly In. Weather looks iffy so watch for announcements on the web site. Set up starts at 8:00 am. Bring a dish to pass and have fun.
Swap Shop update by George Orphan – the ad went to AMA for publication, tickets for the raffle will be available Saturday, and the raffle plane will go to Ryder’s for display after the Memorial Fly In and then move to Butch after the Veterans Fly In.
Nik reported the Kalamazoo Air Zoo static display of May 28 was very good. There were about 30 planes on display by KRAM, Skyhawks, and Thunderbird club members. They made 50 Styrofoam penny planes with the kids in attendance. Danny Osborn’s Laker was voted best of show by the 150 folks that cast votes. Nik rated the event a success.
Mark Schmaltz reported the fence repair was just about complete. East section of the outer fence is all that remains to be tightened. All other areas have been completed.
NEW BUSINESS:
Big Bird event planning – Lee Frederickson reported for Lee Lubbers that the meal cost will be $10 for all and include tenderloin, turkey, French fries, etc. Lee is sending formal invitations (very fancy) to other clubs to attend and discovered Cascade Printing is owned by modelers who gave him a very good deal. Event will run from 3pm until dark on July 13.
Wind Sock is up and paid for – thanks for the effort Dave Kingma
New American Flag is flying and paid for – thanks for the effort Bernie Despres
An Army flag from the Pentagon was presented by Ed Bradley for hanging on the inside wall of the shelter. A plaque will acknowledge the history of the donation.
Jim Dodge, a long time KRAM member, has donated a lot of his hobby items from full planes with engines to partials and pieces and parts. Danny Osborn will try to arrange some of these to a silent auction at the Memorial Fly In. Thanks Jim for the donation.
Art Steenwyk has a 10X18 foot patio roof that he would like to barter for two year’s dues to the club for use as a first step in adding storage behind the shelter. Roof would have to be removed and transported by the club. Discussion and decision to take place at the July meeting.
Allen Simpson reported that the Warped Wings are looking for some Mode 2 trainers to help with a glider program they sponsor with kids. Events would be June 16 and 23. Call Allen if you can help.
Lee Frederickson noted that our Safety Director, Jim Peterson, is still hospitalized. Cards and calls or visits welcome. On a related note, Mark would like to name an Interim Safety Director until Jim is up and around again. If you are interested in serving, please contact Mark.
Lee Lubbers noted that there is a group that comes out once or twice a month and stays for an hour or two with a couple of care givers. They enjoy watching our activity and enjoy any interaction the club members have with them. Make them welcome.
Allen Simpson noted that the third Wednesday of June, July and August there will be float flying at Clifford Lake (near Stanton).
Web master Nik Zinsli reported that a check for $100 is in the mail for the advertising on the KRAM Web Site. Remember, whenever you are on the site, click on the ad – it is free money to the club!
50/50 won by Art Steenwyk – $9
