Meeting Minutes – April 16th 2010

The meeting was called to order by President Mark Schmaltz at 7:00 pm.

Twenty two members were present.

Minutes from the March, 2010 meeting were motioned for approval without change by Jim Peterson and seconded by Al Natali. Motion carried.

The financial status report was presented by Dan McLaren. The report was motioned for acceptance by Dan Osborn and seconded by Lee Frederickson. Motion carried.

Old Business:
Nik reported that the Kzoo Air Zoo static display on May 1 is an enthusiastic go! Doors will open at 7AM for set up with the doors open to the public at 9AM. As of meeting night, there were about 20 KRAM members and 10 Thunderbirds (K’zoo club) planning to attend and display models. All display models should be “dry” so no damage is done to the Air Zoo floor. We will also be having a “make and take” – penny planes made of foam plates – that will be a fun activity for kids attending. Volunteers are needed to man the make and take tables, contact Nikolei if you would like to help. New member James Korringa volunteered to be roving photographer for the day. See the web site for additional details. A mass email will also be sent this week with everything you need to know.

The YMCA event is still in the planning stage. More to follow.

Lee Lubbers reported the “Big Bird” evening is a go. Flyers were sent to local clubs advertising Wednesday, July 14 from 4:00pm until dark with a five dollar entry fee which will cover dinner (dogs, corn, & pop). Giant rules apply (80 inch single wing or 60 inch bi wing). Lee will have a planning meeting with those who volunteered to help with the event soon.

President Mark Schmaltz conducted the annual review of the AMA Safety Rules and the KRAM Field Rules. Excellent review of a topic that is important to all of us for our own safety and the safety of others. All rules have a purpose founded in safety – please follow and enforce them. Remember, we are all “safety officers”! It was noted that the AMA jet waver is actually part of the AMA card for those that hold the waver. Thus, is someone wants to fly a fuel (vs. electric) powered jet, they must have the AMA waver on their card and place the card on the pin control board when pulling the frequency pin.

Our AMA Charter application was accepted and our insurance certificate was issued and is in my possession.

AMA Leader Club application was accepted and KRAM was granted the status of “Gold Leader Club“. Congratulations to all!

The proposed By-Law change was reviewed (removal of membership cap) and unanimously approved. Final review will be held at the May meeting.

New Business:
New members James Korringa and Mark Tucker were accepted into the club.

It was decided that due to the quick dry up of the field that there would be little benefit from rolling this year.

Lee Frederickson was authorized to spend approx. $200 for crab grass pre emergent and fertilizer to be applied in the pit area and areas immediately adjacent to the run way. Lee used his tractor and spreader to apply. No other weed killer / fertilizer expected to be applied this year.

Ben Lopez has suggested putting a static display at the Mel Trotter store on 28Th Street for the Cruise. Idea was accepted with more to follow for this August event.

Charles Rencurrel brought up the idea of trying to attract park flyers to our field with the idea that some of them may well move to bigger planes and become part of AMA and KRAM. After much discussion on how we can legally have them fly at the field, when to do it, etc. – it was motioned by Lee Frederickson and seconded by Nik Zinsli that Charles develop a “marketing plan” for presentation at the May meeting designed to entice some of the park flyers to the field on some specific nights during the summer.

Next meeting – May 4 at Kelloggsville HS – 7:00 PM

At 8:17 a motion to adjourn was made by Allen Simpson and seconded by Nik Zinsli. Motion carried.

Respectfully,
Dan McLaren
Secretary / Treasurer
