Meeting Minutes – January 5th 2010

The meeting was called to order by President Mark Schmaltz at 7:00:05.

Twenty members and no guests were present.

Minutes from the December, 2009 meeting were motioned for approval by Dave Parrotte and seconded by Dave Kingma.  Unanimous approval.

Dan McLaren presented the club financial status as of 12/31/09. About 60 of last year’s members have renewed as of 12/31/09. Moved to accept by Dave Parrotte and seconded by Nikolei Zinsli.  Unanimous approval. Rates for CD will be checked prior to roll over in February.

Roz Osborn is coordinating the KRAM Winter get together to be held at Brann’s Restaurant on January 30. Call the Osborn’s @ 616-681-2359 for sign up – max of 70 for the room.  Our AMA Regional VP – Bill Oberdieck – will be present.

Mark Schmaltz will coordinate with Lowell High School to insure their group does not interfere with our normal club training night.  Suggestion was made to have them schedule their visits on sometime other than Tuesday evenings.

Mark Schmaltz announced he had purchased a 2.4 receiver for the Green club trainer.  This addition results in all club trainers now being on 2.4 which should improve the training time available for others.

Mark Schmaltz will be getting 3 x 5 foot banners from our two supporting hobby shops, Hobby World and Riders Hobby, which will be prominently displayed at the field to support their business in return for all they do to support us.

Randy Bursley and Dave Kingma delivered fruit baskets to our landlord and neighbors before Christmas.  The gesture was well received.

Nikolei Zinsli gave an update on the Web Site.  Thirty nine people are currently registered (including four outsiders).  Four of the club officers still need to register so the Club Contacts listing can be complete.  Nik has had two emails from outsiders – one from the president of Lehigh Valley Radio Control near Allentown Pennsylvania about our fabric runway and the other about training.  The forums are up and running. A classifieds forum has been created, so if you have stuff you are looking for or something for sale put it in this area and see who bites!  A “Wives Forum” has also been established – really helpful for coordinating “dishes to pass” for the club functions.  Get your wives to register so they can participate! There will be a page added that lists all of the gallery pictures.  (It was also suggested that some “how to” instructions be added to this area so we get it right when we try to add items.)  Links to such items as “How to join KRAM, learning to fly, etc.” will be added in the near future.  Likewise, the club roster will be posted as a “KRAM Members Only”  page and everyone should check address, phone numbers and email addresses for correctness.  Any issues, problems, suggestions concerning the website should be directed to Nik – he is more than willing to help!!! Comments and suggestions can also be posted on the forum in the “Suggestion Box” forum.

The Swap Meet (10/24/2010) raffle plane has been purchased.  It is an AT6 Texan with a Super Tiger 61.

New Business:

Mark Schmaltz requested concurrence from the club to continue having a 50/50 and/or raffle at club events to raise $ for the club.  Members agreed to continue the practice.

Dan Osborn reported that he had suggested to the YMCA that they consider having a Saturday “TAG” type event at the field and let the children experience flying RC vs. the “babysitting” type activity of the past.  More to come…

The Vet’s Fly In is confirmed for September 11, 2010 with arrival at 10AM of between 20 – 22 people in one bus.

Mark Schmaltz will be contacting local clubs for the dates of their big events for 2010.  In February Mark will bring a consolidated calendar with proposed dates for our Memorial Fly In and club picnic.

Alan Simpson requested information concerning the cost of mowing the field.  (answer: 2009 expense was $2000.00)

Mark reported on swap shop information he has received.  All information is in the events calendar – you can even post if you are attending and arrange carpooling…  Some noted swap shops:  Livonia 1/17; Warren 1/24; Chesning 2/7; K-zoo 2/20; Flint 3/7.

Mark Schmaltz is following up on park flyers.

Mark Schmaltz is supplying the AMA with club patches for display in Muncie.

Lee Frederickson brought up solar power for the club field.  Discussion tabled (Alan Simpson / Dave Kingma) until more information is consolidated and presented.  No one volunteered to investigate.

Dan McLaren noted that the K-zoo Air Zoo will continue the “free admission” policy for 2010.  In addition, during the months of February and March visitors will be allowed to climb into the cockpits of the WWII planes. Nikolei Zinsli is going to investigate an R/C Show at the Air Zoo.

50/50 drawing ($10) went to Dan Osborn.

Motion to adjourn (Parrotte/Zinsli).  Time not noted.

Respectfully,

Dan McLaren
